Current Legislative News

    Attention Members

I wanted to give you a legislative update. As you know, Glen and I are the WTNLA representatives serving on TOOL's Legislative Action Committee. We have had several conference calls and trips to Nashville with the other committee members and Melissa Bast, our lobbyist. After much debate and gnashing of teeth this session some of the things we accomplished are as follows: W
e successfully defeated the attempt to have all licensed locksmiths submit price lists to the state, additional CEU hours per license term, and the limiting of only one license renewal for apprentices. As well as having the crazy masterkey section removed from the law, we were able to make it a Class B misdemeanor for engaging in locksmithing service without a valid license. Our law now points out it is a violation of the Consumer Protection Act to not list your license number when advertising. I know none of us like to write a check to the legislative fund so I hope this gives you piece of mind to know the money is well spent addressing the concerns of our membership and our industry.
